Is there a best time to book a cruise to Alaska?
Our season of operation reflects the best times to book a cruise throughout Alaska. Each month offers something different so if there is something specific that you are wanting to see please make sure to contact us so we can ensure that your expectations are exceeded.
Do you offer different lengths of cruises?
Where does the cruise start and end? How do I get there?
All of our cruises depart and return to Whittier. Whittier is located South of Anchorage and is approximately a one-hour drive. There are multiple options to get from Anchorage to Whittier. Transportation options include a rental car, private transportation, limousine, or a ride on the Alaska Railroad. Please be aware if you drive a vehicle to Whittier there is a tunnel to drive through. There is a schedule of tunnel openings available at the following website: Tunnel Openings.
How can I pay for my cruise?
A 50 percent deposit per person is required to reserve your space for your requested dates. The balance is due 30 days prior to departure. All deposits are non-refundable.
Is there a certain time of year to increase our chances of seeing whales?
Whales make their northbound migration to Alaska beginning in February, so our summer cruise season is the perfect time to see these wondrous creatures. Humpbacks, Orca Whales, and Porpoise can all be seen in Alaska’s waters generally between June and early September.
What should I wear?
Alaska has a range of temperatures throughout the summer. Mother Nature can be temperamental, and conditions can change quickly. We highly recommend dressing in layers. This will allow you to adjust easily and quickly to our ever-changing weather and temperatures. Please remember to bring rain gear and water-resistant boots for our time on the beaches. If you are particularly averse to cold weather, please make sure to bring a heavier jacket and some sweaters just in case the weather changes.
Can I bring my kids on a cruise?
Absolutely! We love having children aboard. There is so much to see and learn in Alaska and we would love to teach them.
Will I get seasick on board?
Very unlikely! Our vessel is equipped with stabilizers that are designed to decrease the motion of the sea. However, we do recommend that you bring some Dramamine or another generic version of the over-the-counter or prescription motion sickness medication.
Can I go fishing?
Fishing times are dependent on the time of year and the openings that are granted by the State of Alaska Fish and Game. Please call us for the best times to fish for certain species. If you are booking our yacht to participate in a fishing trip please make sure to purchase a fishing license for the State of Alaska.
Can you accommodate special meal requests or allergies?
100%! We customize your trip and your meals to ensure that we exceed your expectations.
Will my cell phone work while on board?
Cell phone coverage is spotty in areas. A large portion of the trip you will receive a signal. There are portions of the trip that there will be no cellular signals.
Do you have internet?
Our internet is limited to areas where there is cellular service. Again, there will be areas within our cruise that have no cellular or internet coverage.
Is it true that it will be light all the time during the summer?
Alaska is known as the land of the midnight sun. The sun is out for most of the day during the summers. Towards the end of June, we do experience close to 24 hours of daylight.
Do I need to add Gratuity?
Alaskan Luxury Charters does not add gratuity to your cost. The standard gratuity is 10-20% if you had a great trip. Please show your appreciation to the crew. If you have any concerns during your cruise, please discuss them with the captain prior to disembarking.
